Black, our reliable guard dog
[2004-08-18 day 7] At MBS hotel
This nice and friendly dog guarded the premises of MBS hotel. Anyone who arrived home late after an evening out in Cheget was thoroughly barked at by our loyal friend. One day Altin gave him some leftovers from the dinner and from then on we had ourselves a loyal ally.
Russian sport car
[2004-08-18 Day 7] At MBS hotel
Some of us (actually, just Marco …) are really interested in sport cars. Marco really liked this custom fitted Lada and was keen to have a photo of him standing next to it.
The mandatory turist photo
[2004-08-18 Day 7] Outside Terskol
There you have it; proof that we have been in Terskol. The sign is located east of Terskol. We are on the way to the Mountain Rescue Center to register our start the next day.
Signing in for the start tomorrow
[2004-08-18 Day 7] The Mountain Rescue Center in Terskol
Marco is filling out the forms for the registration of our start tomorrow (with assistance from Yolanda). When you register you also get the phone number to call in case of emergency. We had our GSM cell phones with us but we were hopping to bring radios since the GSM network can go down. Unfortunately we could not do this since nobody could (or would) give us the emergency frequency…They seem to think this is some kind of military secret…
A local Russian grocery store
[2004-08-18 Day 7] In Terskol
One the way back to MBS we stopped by at one of the local grocery stores to buy some essential supplies (chocolate, candy, cakes, coca cola, etc.) and bottled water.
Caucasus hair fashion
[2004-08-18 Day 7] The bazaar in Cheget
Altin show the 2004 Swedish/Russian hair fashion in Baksan Valley? Not really, just a quite afternoon at the bazaar in Cheget. The lady who was selling the hat assured Altin it fitted him perfectly but He didn’t buy it at the end (too warm for London).
Cheget village
[2004-08-18] Cheget
This is a view of Cheget village with its lines of hotels and restaurants. This is also where you go if you want to use the chair lift to the viewpoint where we went on our second day.
Local barbecue chef
[2004-08-18] Cheget
Mmmmmm, barbecue for lunch. With basic English and sign language we managed to navigate through the Russian menu and place our order. The food was simple but tasted really good. The picture shows the barbeque chef with Marco and Yolanda in the background.
Charging the batteries
[2004-08-18] Cheget
Yolanda is a small and well trained lady, but one thing is for sure; she can eat like a man without any problem with her weight.
