[2004-01-04] Plaza de Mulas
It is a day of rest for some of us while Mattias who rested yesterday carry up some of the equipment and supplies to Camp Canada. You take with you the equipment and provisions (about 20 kg) that you do not need during the next days and leave this at the next base camp. Those who stayed in Plaza de Mulas were busy planning their food rations and other equipment which the picture shows. The equipment that are left in Camp Canada are kept in our Duffle Bags that are waterproof since we do not know what kind of weather it will be and this is a way to protect it from the mice and rats that live in the high camps scavenging on leftovers from climbers.

Mattias can't stop smiling

[2004-01-04] Base camp Canada
Here we can see Mattias at Camp Canada (about 5000 masl), the trip there took a little more than two hours. It was his first trip up to this altitude, a personal record...that soon will be improved. The group of tents at the right hand side is owned by a commercial guide company. They camp in special areas that they have (according to them) priority to. Mattias met another yet larger commercial Norwegian expedition when he sits and enjoy the view and the sun, it seems that every person in Norwegian has left their home to climb Aconcagua this month! After a pleasant walk down the path to Plaza de Mulas he reunites with the rest of the team who now has finished packing everything in order to make the same trip tomorrow.
