Restingday in Plaza de Mulas (4300 - 5000 masl)
English translation: Yayente Johansson  Foto/text: Team Hyperactive
Full of penitentes

[2004-01-02] A bit east of Plaza de Mulas
Olof, Marco and Robert standing in the middle of a group of penitentes nearby Plaza de Mulas. We are accompanied by our new friend Erik. Today we are going up to camp Canada to become better acclimatized and see how we react to the new altitude. However, some of us will not go all the way up to 5000 masl, it is after all a day of rest.

Break with a nice background

[2004-01-02] At Conway Rocks (4610 masl)
Here we can see Olof, Mattias and Erik take a well-deserved break at a famous land mark in the middle of the hill. Marco had stopped a bit earlier to relax and enjoy the view and he then turned back down. Mattias turned back down after this break to join Marco. They will try to connect to internet to report to our families back home, which can be more difficult as it seems when you are at about 4300 masl, or?

Quality time!

[2004-01-02] Camp Canada
Todays stage was now over even for those who have continued their walk up to camp Canada. And now a picture for our sponsors Dalblads. Their energy bars of chocolate gives good energy and taste considerable better than corresponding products at the market. Robert proudly pose with a Swe Bar, a rescuer for life you could call it.

Panoramic view over Plaza de Mulas

[2004-01-02] Above Plaza de Mulas
A panoramic view over Plaza de Mulas with surroundings. Apart from the camp you can see Hotel Mulas, Cerro Bonete which we might climb up to later and Horcone Valley to the left at the picture.

Not a small hotel!

[2004-01-02] At Hotell Mulas
Marco and Mattias met up back in the base camp and thought about how we would get an internet connection. We had heard rumours about that Hotel Mulas could help us, so let us find out what kind of place that is. It took 20 minutes to get there, but then you should know that it was low water in the creeks which made it easier. Mattias in front of this enormous hotel, anyhow if you considering it is located at 4200 masl.

Toilets

[2004-01-02] Plaza de Mulas
In the base camp the different organizers have their own toilets. Here you can see ours, one of the better it has to be added for those who think it does not look nice. But it is better with a cover than without it, particularly if you have to do "number two". The smell is anything but nice and many people seem to find it hard to “aim” when they are doing the business, hence the messy edges...but some do not give a shit about how they are doing the business.

If there was a window

[2004-01-02] Plaza de Mulas
Well, the toilet again. Imagine if it had a window...a better view during the visits here is hard to get, simply amazing. In the background you can see Cerro Catedral. The view had definitely made the visit here easier for those who spent more time here than others...(no names).
